Over the past year, I worked with four Blizzard baseball teams and will continue consulting for the Blizzard organization. They are the 5th ranked youth baseball program in the country. 450 Blizzard players have played in college, and over 60 have been drafted to the MLB. I did a minute-by-minute culture observation and assessment with several of their teams. The athletes and coaches also completed the team culture Survey Monkey. I met with owner Adam Barta and his coaching staff several times over the past year as we brainstormed how to move their values forward.
Culture recommendation: Dugout energy and shenanigan challenge between all of the Blizzard teams where each team submits a video one-minute in length or less. The two teams with the most energy, as chosen by the coaches, can pick an outfit from Goodwill or Walmart for any four Blizzard Coaches to wear during one game at the end of the season! Put this on social media. We believe there is a correlation between energy in the dugout and energy and effort on the field.

The Fighting Illini selected the Premier Season Pass culture coaching package, which included a two-day observation, write-up, and championship culture recommendations. They also completed the team culture Survey Monkey, and I met with the entire team and coaching staff over Zoom. I continued to consult with Coach Nadalie throughout the season. They were ranked as high as #19 in the country in 2023.
Culture Recommendation: “Silent and supportive practices” where the coaches are quiet and can answer questions, but the team plans and leads 1-2 practices. The University of Illinois team planned and communicated the workout, and they coached each other. This put the trust in the athletes and encouraged them to find and use their voices. In elite teams, the athletes are leading and holding high standards, so this activity helped to encourage vocal leadership and ownership amongst the team.
